ABOUT US
Empowering Veterans Through Unity and Advocacy
NABVETS Chapter 53 is Baltimore's local branch of the National Association for Black Veterans. Our association is organized to foster the intellectual, economic, sociocultural, and collective good and well-being of Black veterans. We seek to promote unity through community activism, provide leadership encompassing the entire community, secure, expand, and safeguard the rights and privileges of veterans granted by the United States of America and the States. We will assist veterans as they strive to obtain legitimate benefits for health care, rehabilitation, employment, housing, education, and economic assistance, among others. We will work to broaden the range of monuments and memorials that honor the sacrifices and memory of Black veterans. Here at NABVETS, neither any subordinate thereof shall be established or maintained on any racial, national, or other discriminatory or restrictive basis; nor shall membership ever be conditioned or limited upon such discriminatory considerations. NABVETS officers, members, and volunteers, agents shall not discriminate against any group based on race, religion, creed, sex, age, national origin, or political affiliations.
Our chapter is dedicated to:
- Providing personal advocacy for veterans seeking claims against the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
- Offering assistance with VA benefits, claims support, housing resources, and employment opportunities
- Working to end veteran homelessness and empower low-income and minority veterans
- Preserving the historical contributions of minority veterans
- Fostering community development by creating positive lifestyles for veterans and their families
